やったな...お疲れた~
Spring Break is here! Wooooooooooooooooooooooo-hoooooooooooooo o!! I'm probably gonna waste it eating ice cream naked and playing Smash Bros. I got my ear chewed off by my boss because I "didn't show up" for my third time (which is complete bullshit because I happen to know whoever opens the store was just not there when they were supposed to be.) But, I digress, it seems like it's a whole week of video games and mindless lounging for me! Anyway, wanted to update on some things.
First, for our group: Symbion and I are finally getting ready for hardsubbed DM releases! W00T! Don't worry, the softsub scripts will still be released first, but it'll be nice to get something out as opposed to nothing. Oh, and we're also going to be picking up 5D's, so don't worry Motorcycle Duelist Enthusiasts! And, since Symbion will be in Japan during 5D's run and whatnot, I'm gonna ask him to get some pics of the Duel Terminals, because I know all 6 of you are interested.
In addition to the anime, shriek and I are also working hard on the GX manga. I've got the script for Chapter 27 almost done and am in the final phases of editing the lines for GX Volume 1 (I expect you all to mentally go, "Jesus Christ, just release the damn thing already, you slow bum!"...or something like that.) Maybe once this massive workload on me ends (もうたえられんぞ!!!ってことかな...) I can get started reediting that damned movie novel (because the spelling errors are OVER 9,00--*shot*) and find one of my other neglected YGO-related projects to resume work on.
Now, this isn't any kind of news, or anything, but these were just things I happened to pick up in my notes for some of the cards in my Master Card Database (which is nary complete.) It's just a few things that most people might not know due to lack of understanding of the Japanese language and some good ol' Konami-bitching! Yee-haw!
紫炎の影武者/Shien no Kagemusha
"Shien's Double"/"Kagemusha of the Blue Flame" (TCG)
Shien ni tsukaeru kagemusha. Surudoi kireaji no meitou o motsu. ("A double who serves Shien. He wields a sharp-edged and fine sword.")
Serving as a double for the Ruler of the Blue Flame, he's a master swordsman that wields a fine blade.
Basic translation preferences aside, because Konami (or whoever they had translating the cards) did not know who this "Shien" was, they basically took the name "Shien," broke its name in the kanji "blue" and "fire," and said, "Well, here we go!" They even changed "Shien" again in his flavor text (which is spelled in katakana, by the way,) to "Ruler of the Blue Flame" to hide their mistake...lol.
翻弄するエルフの剣士/Honrou'suru Erufu no Kenshi
"Trifler Elf Swordsman"/"Obnoxious Celtic Guard" (TCG)
Poor Elf Swordsman...he's the only card I ever know of to have 4 name changes over the span of 2 cards. The weirdness in this card's name actually comes from its flavor text. However, you would have never had known this if you didn't read the original Elf Swordsman's flavor text. ("Kenjutsu o mananda erufu. Subayai kougeki de teki o honrou'suru."/"An elf who's learned to wield a sword. He trifles with his foes with his agile attacks.") So, yeah, if you ever wondered why Elf Swordsman has that name, this is the reason.
ヴァルキリー/Varukirii
"Valkyrie"/"Dark Witch" (TCG)
Wow, is this one confusing. So, basically, the card's original name is "Valkyrie"...but then, when they find out there's a "Dunamis Valkyria" (note "-kyria",) they go with "Dunames Dark Witch." However, ever since then, every card with "Valkyria" has been kept as "Valkyria" and all cards with "Valkyrie" as "Valkyrie." The problem now arises with "Dark Valkyria" (LOTD card) which is already a Dark Attribute monster...when all the other times the "Dark Witch" has been "Light." An interesting predicament, indeed! And when you add that the dub of the anime calls Sieg's "Walkure" cards "Valkyries," you open up a new can of worms. (However, to be fair, it seemed nobody except Mr. Edo got ahold of that one. Even I used "Valkyrie" for a while until I found out that was utterly batshit confusing.)
ゴキボール/Gokibooru
"Roachball"/"Gokibore"
I just like how they screwed up the romanization. Oh, and "Gokiboru" is a pun off of "Gokiburi", or cockroach, and "ball" (roach.) It makes you wonder where some of these weird ass names come from. Of course, I could have a whole livejournal devoted to Konami's screwy romanization translations (BASTA RANCHER!!!!111)
Well, that's about all. Till next time. 以上!!
